One of my responsibilities as Archdiocesan Director is to visit a certain number of parishes each year and to speak in person about the work accomplished by our Holy Father’s Missionary Societies. These parish visits are the part of my job that I enjoy the most. It gives me a chance to be “out in the field,” meeting with our priests and their parishioners. I am impressed by the work that is accomplished in our parishes, but even more impressed by the warm welcome I receive wherever I go.
Last weekend I had the privilege of visiting Saint Adelaide Parish in West Peabody. The pastoral team, Fathers Raymond Van De Moortell and David Lewis, were wonderful hosts and welcomed me enthusiastically. Saint Adelaide Parish was founded in 1962 and so will be celebrating its Golden Anniversary next year. It was a particular joy for me to spend the weekend there because, as a high school student, I used to substitute as organist at some of the weekend Masses. It was wonderful to see the growth that has taken place there during the last half-century and to experience a lively and faith-filled parish community.

The staff and the members of Saint Adelaide Parish live well the mission statement printed in their weekly bulletin: to proclaim the Good News of Salvation through Jesus Christ by strengthening our parish family and by ministering to the spiritual, physical and social needs of the community!!! Congratulations to Father Van De Moortell and Father Lewis and to the staff and parish community at Saint Adelaide’s. As you celebrate almost fifty years of service to the People of God in West Peabody, we wish you Ad Multos Annos!
